Andrew Russell Garfield was born on 20 August 1983 in Los Angeles, California, as the second child to a British nursing school assistant mother Lynn and an American swimming coach father Richard Garfield. He along with his parents moved to Epsom, England when he was three years old. Garfield’s first choice was to become a businessman and had attended Priory Preparatory School and City of London Freemen’s School but later he became interested in acting therefore, he joined a small youth theatre workshop group and took theatre studies at A-Level then, he was enrolled in Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London and graduated from there in 2004.

Andrew stepped into the acting world via theatre since he was 9 years old where he appeared in a youth theatre production of Bugsy Malone. After graduating in 2004, he primarily focused on stage acting and gave many powerful performances in some stage shows such as in Kes (2004) and Romeo and Juliet(2005) at Manchester Royal Exchange Theatre where his performance was highly acclaimed. The British- American actor made his British Television debut in 2005 with Channel 4 teen drama Sugar Rush as Tom. Then he appeared in few episodes of some television shows like Doctor Who (2007), Freezing (2007), Trial & Retribution (2007), Red Riding (2009) and Saturday Night Live (2011, 2014).
Garfield made his first feature film debut from Lions of Lambs in 2007. In the same year, he featured in a TV film Boy A where he played the role of Jack Burridge/ Eric Wilson.
