Christian Charles Philip Bale

Whenever anyone talks about one of the most influential method actors of Hollywood, they cannot miss one name and that is Christian Charles Philip Bale. The Oscar-winning star was born on 30 January 1974 as the son of Jenny, an English circus performer and David Bale, a South African commercial pilot. His family lived in many countries throughout Bale’s childhood such as England, Portugal and the United States. He has often acknowledged that the frequent relocations have drawn him towards his career choice. He attended Bournemouth school until age 16.

His journey in the industry

Christian Charles Philip Bale was 8 when he acted in a commercial for a fabric softener Lenor. After his parents got divorced he shifted to Los Angeles with his father.

The 90’s

 

Bale debuted in the film industry as Tsarevich Alexei Nikolaevich in Anasthesia: The Mystery of Anna (1986). Then he acted in many lead roles in movies like Heart of the countryMio in the Land of FarawayEmpire of The Sun (1987) for which he was immensely praised. After that he acted in Henry V(1989) and Treasure Island (1990). Moreover he was seen in musical films Newsies and Swing Kids.

The 2000s

 

In 2000 one of the most controversial movies of Bale American Psycho was released, he spent months to achieve ‘Olympian figure’ as needed for his role. Bale’s performance in the movie was termed as heroic. Additionally, in 2002, he was starred in three main features films named Laurel CanyonReign of Fire and Equilibrium. Then he played Trevor Reznik in 2004 psychological thriller The Machinist, his acting and devotion to the role was widely praised as he dropped to 100lb. to play a severe insomniac. After his success in The Machinist, Bale bagged the role of Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. For the role he had to be 190 lb. in six months, the whole experience was tough for him but Bale’s hard work and dedication didn’t stop him from gaining the required weight for Batman in the asserted time. Consequently Batman Begins released in 2005, the movie was an international triumph and Bale’s role was praised by critics and fans as well.

Furthermore, Christian acted on several films like Harsh times (2006), Rescue Dawn (2006), The Prestige (2006), and I am Not There (2007). The highly anticipated The Dark Knight was released in 2008 and was widely praised as expected. Subsequently, he starred in Terminator Salvation (2009) and Public Enemies (2009). Thereby, in 2011 The Fighter was released where he played the role of Dicky Eklund for which he lost 14 kg (30lb), the film and his performance were universally acclaimed.

 

Bale then starred in the historical epic The Flower of the Wars (2011). In addition to that, he again played Bruce Wayne in the third and final trilogy of Batman Series The Dark Knight Rises (2012). He also performed in thriller Out of the Furnance (2013) and the drama comedy American Hustle (2013) for which he gained 43 lb. (20 kg) and also gone bald for it.

Then he starred in a biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) and in Adam McKay’s biopic The Big Short (2015).

Personal life

 

Bale lives in Los Angeles with his family. He married Sandra Blazic a model, make-up artist and personal assistant to actress Winona Ryder. They have two kids together: daughter Emmaline and son Joseph.

Bale actively supports Sea Shephard Conservation Society and World Wildlife Fund and is also on Board of trustees of Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.

Major achievements

 

Christian’s role in Empire of Sons bagged him Best Performer by a Juvenile actor from the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures. He also won Saturn award for Best Actor and the Best Hero Awards at the 2006 MTV Movies Awards for his movie Batman Begins. Moreover, he won the Oscar Award, the Golden Globe Award and the Academy Award for Best Supporting actor and other 30 awards for his movie The Fighter. On top of that, in 2011 he was listed in the top 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine.

Recent Projects

Bale is set to star in musical film Song to Song, a period drama Hostiles and also remake of the epic adventure fantasy movie Jungle Book.
