About:
Danielle Campbell was born and raised on Long Island and is a multiple Emmy Award and Edward R. Murrow Award-winning reporter and anchor for News 12 Long Island.
Career:
Danielle began her career with a bang running for WNBC Radio in Manhattan. It had been there she really learned the company by working with budding radio actors Howard Stern and Don Imus.
After surviving the wrath of Howard and Imus, Danielle decided to focus her career on journalism. As a radio reporter, Danielle worked at almost every radio station on Long Island and reported for four years on 1010WINS in Manhattan as their Long Island correspondent.
She also wrote articles for the Long Island section of the New York Times.
Danielle has covered and continues to be live in the field, reporting on breaking news, major crime stories and trials, (serial killer Joel Rifkin, the Katie Beers kidnapping, the TWA and Avianca plane crashes, MS-13 gang killings, limo deaths in Cutchogue, coronavirus}
She also anchored
News 12’s coverage of the Sept. 11 attacks, the Miracle on the Hudson, Superstorm Sandy and other major breaking news stories on and off Long Island.
Danielle traveled to Haiti twice for News 12. When the earthquake struck in 2012, Danielle documented the efforts of a team of LI doctors and nurses to help the people of Haiti.
While covering the disaster, Danielle put her camera down and instead assisted the team of medical professionals as they worked around the clock helping the injured people of Haiti.
Danielle also collected 400 pounds of supplies from her community to bring to Haiti. Danielle’s second trip was to a school being built by Long Islanders for the children of Haiti.
She again brought hundreds of pounds of donations for the school and the families in the hard-hit village of Croix-des-Bouquets. As an international reporter, Danielle also traveled to Nicaragua, Ecuador, and all over Europe – on similar mission trips, sharing the hope Long Islanders spread by building homes, performing lifesaving surgeries, and restoring and renewing the lives of those less fortunate.
One of the highlights of Danielle’s career was traveling with NYPD Officer Steven McDonald to Lourdes, France, and documenting his journey to spread the message of faith and forgiveness. McDonald’s was paralyzed from the neck down but traveled the world sharing his story with global leaders on how forgiveness can lead nations toward nonviolent conflict resolution.
Danielle is also has a passion for Long Island’s environment. As the environmental reporter for News 12, she delivers the stories that are affecting Long Islanders’ health and welfare and the fight to save our sole source aquifer.
Danielle is extremely proud of her award-winning series, “Long Island’s Hidden Past,” – in which she uncovers the legends, the myths, and the facts tied to Long Island’s rich and varied history. She has traveled across Long Island – uncovering hidden graveyards, ghost tales, sunken ships, spies, treasure and one of her favorite stories – the behind the scenes tour of OHEKA Castle. Danielle loves reporting on Long Island history and is grateful to the Long Islanders who work tirelessly – many for free, saving Long Island’s historic legacy.
Campbell has been on the scene of many breaking and big-time Long Island stories. She is also no stranger to hurricanes, snowstorms, and wildfires, during which she has reported live from the scene around the clock.
